The first of a series of hardcover sets dedicated to the literary achievements of Christopher Tolkien, with double-sided dust jackets. Set 1 contains special editions of The Silmarillion and Unfinished Tales, reproducing the text of the first edition, as well as two volumes of the Book of Lost Tales.

"The Silmarillion" is a story about ancient times, about the First Era of Tolkien's world. This is an ancient drama that the characters of The Lord of the Rings look back on and in the events of which some of them, such as Elrond and Galadriel, took part. The Silmarillion takes place in an era when Morgoth, the first Dark Lord, lived in Middle-earth, and the high elves declared war on him for the return of the Silmarils, gems containing the pure light of Valinor.

Unfinished Tales is a collection of short stories that spans the time period from the ancient days of Middle-earth and the rise of Numenor in the Second Age to the end of the War of the Ring, and provides those who have read The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings with an entire collection of backstories and new stories from the most famous and popular author of the twentieth century.

The Book of Lost Tales stands at the origin of the entire concept of Middle-earth and Valinor, as these stories were the first form of myths and legends that later became known as the Silmarillion. Associated with English legend and English associations, they unfold as part of the narrative of the great voyage west across the ocean by a navigator named Eriol to a lonely island where elves lived; from them he learned their true story, the lost tales of the elves.

The two volumes of the Tales contain the earliest stories about gods and elves, dwarves, balrogs and orcs; about the Silmarils and the two trees of Valinor; about the geography and cosmology of Tolkien's fictional world.

Published together for the first time, these four books reflect the beginning of Christopher Tolkien's forty-year career dedicated to presenting his father J.R.R. Tolkien's writings on Middle-earth, a unique achievement celebrating the greatest fictional world in all of fantasy literature.
